The Albion were due to start our penultimate
game of the season with the same line up that beat Edexcel so
handsomely last week, but three players had to cry off at the
last minute. After a few panicky late arrivals we managed to
field eleven and I was spared my second appearance of the season.
Opponents Chapel are vying for first place so we went into the
game as second favourites and put in a good battling performance
to come away only 2-1 down. |
Both sides started well with good movement
and passing, there were also plenty of long balls to deal with
and it was rather windy. The Albion had a fair bit of defending
to do, and did it well, Rich and Will covered masses of ground
in midfield to help out the back four. Chapel looked good, unfortunately
they spoiled it for themselves with constant moaning, we also
managed to run at them a bit and win a few free kicks. They
were 2-0 up by half time but our spirits hadn’t flagged
at all which is always nice to see. |
| The Reds got a goal back within five minutes
of the restart, it was a blinding left footed volley from Rich
that has a valid claim to be goal of the season. Chapel didn’t
like it at all and whinged even more, goal difference is relevant
to them you see. They pressed throughout the second half and had
a few good efforts but our centre halves and Rob were equal to
the task. I was impressed with the commitment shown by the whole
team, everyone covered a lot of ground and tried for the equaliser
until the end. If we play like that against Camden in our last
game then they have no chance. |
| Well done to all who played, man of the match
is Rob who was impressive throughout and made several seemingly
impossible saves. |
| Our team (4-4-2 r-l): Rob; Irish
Pete, Dom, Steve F, Matt C; MH Pete, Rich, Will, Jim; Joss, Ben. |
