Due to popular pressure I’ve decided that Albion friendlies merit a match report. So here you go:
I’m tempted to just tell you the score then spout lyrical about the best goal I’ve ever seen but that’ll have to wait. For those of your who don’t follow the Albion’s fortunes closely we’ve been playing friendly games every Thursday at Market Road. This week’s game was against International Heritage, some of you may know their (less) slap-headed manager, and that Dennis and Dom have played for them. The former showed up for them tonight, also renegade Q.C. Aces turncoat Giles put in an appearance as centre forward.
The first half was a scrappy affair, neither team dominated, rather both were cancelled out through a lot of chasing down and general putting it about. Heritage had two or three shots on goal, the Albion edged it possession wise in the last fifteen minutes.
Remember David Beckham scoring a goal for Manchester when he was just inside his own half? It was against Wimbledon I believe. That was nothing. The Albion had a free kick a good five, nay ten, yards back from the centre circle, goalkeeper Rob spotted his opponent off his line and f*cking went for it. Absolutely brilliant, the twenty or so spectators were stunned, I’ve never seen a better goal myself; believe me or not that’s also the first time I’ve seen every Reds player run up to the scorer after a goal.
Once Rob had secured himself Albion immortality and the team a 2-1 lead there was no looking back. Matt C scored next, Rich got one soon after, and finally Ben took a header with minutes to spare. We also had a Matt B header disallowed for, well being stronger than the defender, Dr Mark hit the post from way outside the area, Monkey Hanger Pete was unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions. I could go on for ages but won’t.

Great performance lads, we’re looking good for the coming season and there is at last genuine competition for places. For example, off the top of my head: regulars who didn’t play today: Dom, James, Jim, Joss, Tom, Will. And we still won well. Cool. I like it.

Our team (rolling subs): Aidan, Al, Ben, Big Mark, Dr Mark, Irish Pete, Matt C, Matt G, MH Pete, Mikey, Rich, Rob, Sean, Steve.
