Hello Reds,

Due to Al's reluctance to do the match report and it being a special game for me, I'll do the report, which obviously will be completely unbiased.

In difficult conditions last night (it was hot, humid and windy) Albion Reds put in a professional performance against QC Aces with our first half performance being quite impressive although this may have had something to do with playing with the wind and not being blinded by the sun. The scoring was opened by James with a sweet swerving drive which left the keeper breakdancing on the line. We continued to dominate , creating chances and playing good passing football despite a reshuffle after Rich went off injured. This paid off when Dom stooped to score from a corner (I was right behind him ready to pounce as usual). The next goal was an absolute peach, James played a ball over the top of the defence, I raced onto it and with my first touch lobbed the keeper from 20 yards thus breaking my Albion Reds duck.
The second half was a more tame affair as the conditions affected our football and QC stepped up their game. With no goals scored after 30 mins I came off the bench (we were using rolling subs) to make an immediate impact, shinning it to Tom at a corner for him to slot it home. Albion picked up the pace again and looked dangerous. The game was topped off nicely by Tom Van Basten's ludicrous dipping volley from a crazy angle (instantly stifling Alan's call of 'pass it you greedy b#stard').
So well done to a few people in particular, Alan made his first start for the reds and put in a solid performance at right back. Mike played well in goal despite not knowing the rules and also doing a Harlem Globetrotter impression 5 yards out of the area. Well done for keeping a rare Albion Reds clean sheet. And our 'trialists', tricky wingers Taka and Paul both played well on the left.
Man of the match - should be Tom purely for the volley, but I pick it so its me.
Steve
ps My lucky toenail fell off last night in a tribute to my first goal.
